My Friend Jamal - The Koran
The Koran (or Qu’ran) is the hold book of the Islamic religion. It was originally written in Arabic (link to next page). It is believed by Muslims to be the revelation of God (Allah).
Muslims believe God revealed his words to Muhammad, who, with the help of his companions wrote down the text. It used for praying as well as a guide to Muslims as to how they should lead their lives.
Most Muslims today use printed editions of the Qur’an. There are many editions, large and small, elaborate or plain, expensive or inexpensive.
Bilingual forms with the Arabic on one side and another language on the other are very popular. Jamal’s family have one with Somali and Arabic.
The Qur'an is covered with cloth to keep it clean and protect it

It is kept on a high shelf with nothing above it. Before some readers will read it they touch their forehead with the book and kiss the cover.
